I started to take pictures when I got my first camera in 2000, no photography education, (still not educated), but did what anyone who loves an image does; look at books, study the greats, and take pictures of the things that move you. I am moved by the big picture of irony and the small detail of tilt of a hand. Photography allows me to capture the moment that im in to stand from the side and observe. Photography I have found has made me a batter actor. Its using your senses from a distance, observing, listening, in some cases touching. A picture tells a story. When I got my first place in Hollywood as an actor with no money, I was trying to move from having my walls decorated with rock and roll posters and Sports illustrated swimsuit models to something more mature, I couldn't afford expensive artwork so I started using my own camera as somewhat of a paintbrush. I am not famous, I have not made a million on my photos, they are not featured in travel magazines or fashion campaigns, but they tell a story, my story and I feel a sense of pride in that alone. For years Ive had encouragement coming from so many directions to do something with my photography with the rise of social media and instagram and Tumblr we are inundated with images, everyones now a photographer...or a actor (tick tock) It's sad in a sort of way that being good at something has nothing to do with time spent on a craft and education, and I don't necessarily mean a college education. I'm not really sure how this road is going as an actor, artist, Director, writer, producer or a photographer. It's a journey, and the joy and the growth is in that journey, Id love to spend an hour with Helmut Newton, Annie Leibovitz, Steven Meisel, Irving Penn, Peter Lindberg, Weber, Von Unwerth, Demarchelier, Steven Klein, Herb Ritts, Bert Stern and so many more.
